Bela Bartok

Bela Bartok(1881-1945), Hungarian composer. Born at Nagy Szent Miklos, Hungary, March 25, 1881; died in New York, September 26, 1945. Noted for researches in folk-music and for compositions in original modern idioms; he studied with Koessler and Erkel at Budapest Academy; later he taught there; toured US in 1927-28; finally moved to US in 1940. He composed orchestral music, concertos(best known for the "Concerto for Orchestra"), ballet music, operas, and various forms of compositions based on Romanian and Hungarian folk music.
